Do you not believe that God can protect His Word and keep it so that when we read it we can clearly see what He means? 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers nor male prostitutes, nor homosexual offenders, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were, but you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Interesting interpretation of Romans except Romans 3:31 is a turning point that you didn't mention. It reads Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.

So we can uphold the law by faith, faith in whom? In Jesus Christ. If we keep focused on Him, we can grow in faith and lose that self-worship that leads to all kinds of sin.

While I agree that Romans 1 sets up for that great knockout punch in Romans 2, I don't see how you could infer with any certainty that Paul was joking or exaggerating in Romans 1.

[...] Reading the Bible Posted on May 5, 2008 by Tarald Stein It’s time for me to buy a new one. My old one is probably on the bottom of some box not unpacked since the last time I moved, 4 years ago, and has underlined things that I no longer find important. I’ve started over so many times since I read in it last time, it’s time to get a new one. I think I want an edition with footnotes to explain the discurse the texts were written in. When I do that, I plan on blogging my reading. In the meantime, I’ll recommend Through the storm’s explanation of Romans 1. [...]

Thanks Brandon,
I think I make a good argument too (and it may be even better since I just made a few changes and corrected my grammar!)... but there are days when I am not sure, either. I'm beginning to put that down to years of indoctrination. The challenge then is to repent (repent meaning to change my way of thinking); the goal is to be at peace with who I am. After all, I didn't ask to be gay, and thirty years of seeking the heart of God has not yet transformed me. I aim to live the next thirty years with integrity: able to love God, love the truth, and to love myself, so that I can truly love others.

Thanks for the response. I'm still not entirely sure what to believe though. You make a very good argument, and it's one I'm beginning to see makes more and more sense. But... I'm just still not sure. Sometimes I feel as if maybe it is okay, and other times I just get such a strong feeling it isn't. And then I see scripture in a way that could almost support both feelings. So, I'm still not convinced one way or the other.

I really do appreciate your response though. You brought up some very interesting points.

God bless.
